We’ve had so many of our audience members ask about our wonderful playwrights and their other work that we thought we’d publish a little about each of them.

alexisroblanAlexis Roblan (playwright, GENESIS)

Alexis Roblan’s plays have been produced and developed in New York, LA, DC, the UK and Australia by companies such as Angry Bubble, Brain Melt Consortium, The Disreputables, The Dirty Blondes, The Inkwell, INTAR, and World Interplay. She grew up in Coos Bay, Oregon, and is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s MFA in Dramatic Writing program. She has worked in the Literary offices at Center Theatre Group (Los Angeles) and Roundabout Theatre Company (NYC), and is a member of New Perspectives Theatre Company’s Women’s Work Project. Her plays include AND IT SPINS TWICE (FringeNYC) and DAUGHTERS OF LOT (Edinburgh Fringe).

Kristen Palmer (playwright, ONCE UPON A BRIDE THERE WAS A FOREST)

KRISTEN PALMER’s plays include Westward Mutations, Once Upon A Bride There Was a Forest, The Stray Dog, The Melting Point, Local Story, The Heart in Your Chest, Departures, and Gloucester Point. They have been produced and presented in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, and elsewhere. She has been a Women’s Project Lab Member collaborating on the off-Broadway production We Play For The Gods, a Jerome Fellow at the Playwrights’ Center, a New Georges associate artist, a Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab Member, and a company member of Printer’s Devil Theatre in Seattle. She is a graduate of Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire, England and holds an MFA from Hunter College where she studied with Tina Howe and Mark Bly and won both the Zarkower and Goldberg Prizes.  She is currently the Artistic Director of Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theatre.

 

Gina Femia (playwright, SUPER, OR, HOW CLARK GRAVES LEARNED TO FLY)

Gina Femia is a Brooklyn born and based playwright.  Her work has been presented as a part of the Downtown Urban Theatre Festival, Dixon Place’s HOT!Fest, The One Minute Play Festival, Women Center Stage Festival, New York Madness, The Short Plays by Women Festival in Columbia, MO, The New Ideas Festival in Toronto and the Play Offs in Denver.  Her solo show Happily Never Ever has performed as part of The United Solo Festival, the Estrogenius Festival and has been published in an anthology of solo shows.

In June, her play Mahogany Brown and the Case of the Disappearing Kid will be presented as a part of the Brick Theater’s Comic Book Festival.  Her solo show Undead Anonymous will be included in The United Solo Festival in November as part of their ENCORES group.

She has had work developed at the Brick Theater’s Oven Reading Series, twice at Dixon Place as a part of their Performances-in-Progress Series and Sarah Lawrence College where she received her MFA in theatre and was awarded the Lipkin Prize in Playwriting.

Gina is an affiliated artist of New Georges and a co-founding member of Everyday Inferno Theatre.  She has been a semi-finalist for The National Playwrights Conference at the O’Neill and the Princess Grace Award as well as Ars Nova’s and SPACE on Ryder Farm’s playwrights groups.

August Schulenberg (playwright, DREAM WALKER)

bwgBrenda Withers (playwright, THE DING DONGS, or, What is the Penalty in Portugal?)

Brenda Withers is a writer and actor. She is a founder of both the Harbor Stage Company (Hedda Gabler, CHURCH) and Lucid Theater (My Heart Split in Two, The Macguffin?), the co-writer of Matt & Ben (PS 122), and a former playwriting fellow of the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France. She has worked with companies like Hoi Polloi, the Folger, Dixon Place, HERE, McCarter, and Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, where her play The Ding Dongs (or What is the Penalty in Portugal?) premiered. She studied drama and religion at Dartmouth College.

 

 

Mariah MacCarthy (playwright, THE HAZARDS OF LOVING WHILE BROKEN)

Mariah MacCarthy’s work has been presented and developed at Rattlestick, Primary Stages, EST/Youngblood, Culture Project, New Dramatists, La MaMa, HERE Arts Center, Theater for the New City, Jimmy’s No. 43, Players Theatre, site-specifically around New York, and in Austin, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, Baltimore, and Fringe NYC. Nat is one of New York City’s most exciting new playwrights, with numerous productions and awards, critical acclaim, and a reputation for producing intelligent, bold, darkly comic plays with one foot in horror and the other in literary allusion. Nat’s works have been seen at venues such as LaMaMa ETC, Theatre Row, The Players Club, The Players Theatre, The WorkShop Theatre, The Gallery Players, and Manhattan Theatre Source, as well as across the country, from Los Angeles to Tulsa.  In 2012, he was commissioned by The Kennedy Center/Washington National Opera, as part of the first-ever American Opera Initiative, to write the libretto for a new short opera with composer Scott Perkins.

Geraldine Inoa Promotional PhotoGeraldine Inoa, (playwright, FRAGMENTS)

Geraldine recently graduated from NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where her play Fragments was part of the 2013 Gallatin Arts Festival. She brought a full-length version of the play to Spartanburg to workshop it.  At 23, Geraldine is the youngest of the playwrights represented in the Play Exchange.
